Our main enthusiasm in breeding the Giant and Miniature Schnauzer lies in good bloodlines which have been proven to fit the FCI standard. We strive to breed for healthy dogs with a good temperament and working abilities to boot.
Our dogs live with us in the house and are free to go everywhere. A big part of our daily activities revolve around our dog, therefore our dogs are big part of our family life.
Since the dogs live in our house there will not be many litters per year, and we will not mate again until the Riesenpuppies are at least 2 years old. That way we can see how the mating went regarding temperament and working ability.
With our Riesenschnauzers, all our breeding animals will be hip X-rayed before breeding. They will also go through a mental test, either the MH test here in Iceland or the same or similar tests abroad.
A good Riesenschnauzer should be even tempered with a happy face and a waging tail while working in the field as well in the show ring, strongly built with a square body.
Our white Zwergschnauzer will be checked for PRA and Cataract every 18 months according to the Icelandic kennel clubs (HRFI) regulations. Even though there is no working trial for the Zwergschnauzer we will take them to the mental test (MH) to see what males and females fit well together.
As for breeding for the Zwergschnauzer there will not be many litters per year either. Why ? We want to take our time to assess the puppies and see how well the particular matings turned out, how well these lines fit together and so on. We are in no rush.
